The danger does not abate in Kabul. A little more than two days after the attack claimed by the Islamic State organization, which left more than 100 dead, the United States warned on Saturday against new threats in the same place. They called on their nationals to leave the area immediately.

“Due to a specific and credible threat, all American citizens in the vicinity of Kabul airport (…) should leave the area as soon as possible”, announced the American Embassy in Kabul in a warning message. The threat particularly concerns “The south gate, the new Ministry of the Interior and the gate near the Panshir petrol station north-west of the airport”, she specifies.

Serial bomb threats

Serial bomb threats have disrupted the Americans’ emergency evacuation operations at the airport in recent days, forcing them to cooperate more closely with the Taliban, who now control the country, to try to avoid another bloody attack.

Earlier this Saturday, President Joe Biden warned that another terrorist attack at the airport was “Very likely within 24 to 36 hours”. “The situation on the scene remains extremely dangerous and the threat of a terrorist attack on the airport remains high”, wrote the US president in a statement, after meeting with his military and security advisers.

The “hunt” for the perpetrators of the attack continues

The attack on Thursday, claimed by ISIS in Khorasan (EI-K), killed more than 100 people, including 13 American soldiers. He unleashed retaliatory strikes from the US military. Two “important targets” of the EI-K group, “Organizers” and “Operators”, were killed, and another injured, the Pentagon announced on Saturday.

“I said we would hunt down the group responsible for the attack on our troops and innocent civilians in Kabul, and we did”, hammered Joe Biden in his press release. “This strike was not the last. We will continue to hunt down any individual involved in this heinous attack and make them pay ”, he added.

The Pentagon published, Saturday afternoon, the identity of the 13 soldiers killed in the attack on Thursday. Of these, five were 20 years old, the length of the United States’ longest war, launched in 2001 in Afghanistan.

“Their courage and altruism have so far enabled more than 117,000 people in danger to find themselves in safety”, leaving Afghanistan since the end of July, greeted Joe Biden. Their remains were on their way to the United States on Saturday, according to the Pentagon, which did not specify when they would arrive.
