Twitter temporarily suspended, Sunday, January 17, the account of an American member of the ultra-right Republican, follower of the conspiracy theories, for having violated the rules of integrity of the speech on the social network, indicated Twitter and the office of the chosen one.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a representative from Georgia (South) recently elected to Congress who does not hide her affinities with the QAnon conspiracy movement, had tweeted earlier Sunday on the Georgia senatorial elections, arguing of fraud.
The MP’s messages were then given a special mention by Twitter indicating that “This claim that there was electoral fraud is disputed. We cannot reply to this Tweet or retweet it because of the risk of violence ”, said the group.
Multiplication of initiatives from tech giants
Sunday afternoon, Twitter decided to ban the MP for twelve hours. “The account in question has been temporarily suspended for multiple violations of our ethical rules”, a Twitter spokesperson told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The move marks the latest installment in tech greats’ efforts to purge their platforms of pro-Trump extremists after the violent incidents on Capitol Hill on January 6. Two days after riots by his supporters that invaded Congress buildings, Twitter had permanently suspended Donald Trump’s account. The president’s favorite communication tool, it had more than 88 million subscribers. In addition to its flagship measure, Twitter also deleted 70,000 QAnon affiliate accounts last weekend.
Facebook, for its part, suspended the profile of the tenant of the White House indefinitely and undertook to remove all messages related to the slogan. “Stop the steal” (“Stop the flight”) echoed by his supporters who believe, like him, that the election was the subject of massive fraud to elect Democrat Joe Biden.
A “monopoly stranglehold out of control”
Google and Apple have excluded the social network Parler from their application download platforms. And Amazon has driven the point home by ousting the conservative network, popular with Donald Trump’s supporters, from its servers, which is tantamount to driving it out of the internet.
In a press release Mme Taylor Greene protested: “A few days after the Silicon Valley cartel launched a multi-front attack to muzzle free speech in America in “deplatforming” President Donald Trump and by purging a number of conservative accounts, Twitter has decided to suspend my personal account without explanation ”.
“This monopolistic stranglehold that a few tech greats have over American political discourse is out of control”, she adds.
