The ceremony was painstakingly prepared in the eight months following Charles III’s accession to the throne of the United Kingdom, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022. King Charles III was officially crowned on Saturday May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London. He was sworn in as the representative of the Anglican Church at the head of the country. His wife, Queen Consort Camilla, was also crowned, without taking an oath.
After the mass, during which Charles III received the royal insignia, the royal couple joined Buckingham Palace, accompanied by some four thousand soldiers in ceremonial clothes.
