After a first yellow card in January 2021, followed by a series of warnings, Twitter released a red card to sanction the Republican elected Marjorie Taylor Greene. The social network announced, Sunday, January 2, to have permanently suspended one of the accounts of the elected Republican of Georgia, accused of violating the rules of the social network in terms of information on the pandemic.

Twitter closed his personal account, @mtgreenee, with which this fervent supporter of Donald Trump, known for his excesses, notably took up many false information about vaccines against Covid-19. Mme Greene, who also reproduced the allegations of electoral fraud brandished without proof by the former President of the United States, however retains control of her account as an elected member of the House of Representatives, @RepMTG, which she used less so far.

The social network did not specify which messages had caused a problem, but referred in a statement sent to Agence France-Presse to its “Penalty system” gradual, which imposes several violations before suspending an account.

The elected official had seen her account blocked for a week in August because she had tweeted that vaccines “Does not work[aient] not “. On Saturday, she had mentioned again, without any factual element, “An extremely high number of deaths due to the vaccine against the Covid”.

Sunday, Mme Greene strongly criticized the sanction. In a statement on the Telegram messaging app, she writes that Twitter “Is an enemy of America and cannot face the truth”, adding: “It’s okay, I’m going to show America that we don’t need them. “

The social network also banned Donald Trump after the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, by his supporters whom he had heated to white by evoking a “Stolen election”.
