In Lansdowne, Ontario, March 21, 2020.

The closure of the border between the United States and Canada to all non-essential travel has been extended by one month – until March 21 -, the Canadian government said on Friday.

“Restrictions on non-essential travel with the United States have been extended until March 21, 2021”, announced Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety, on Twitter.

Hotel quarantine

The closure of the borders of the United States with its two partners of the North American Free Trade Association, Canada and Mexico, was decided in March and extended every month since. Only trade in goods and merchandise, as well as travel considered essential, are permitted.

From Monday, all travelers going to Canada will also have to quarantine themselves in a hotel upon arrival, until they are notified of the results of the mandatory PCR screening test to which they have previously submitted.
