One was shirtless, Native American headdress with buffalo horns on his head, another held a Confederate flag, while a rioter wore a “Camp Auschwitz” t-shirt… Donald Trump’s supporters who launched the assault on the Capitol in Washington on January 6 intended to “Capture and assassinate elected officials”, estimates the US federal prosecutor in a series of documents made public Thursday, January 14.
A file filed by the Department of Justice in court calls for the continued detention of Jacob Chansley, a conspirator of the QAnon movement, photographed in shaman attire. “Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions on Capitol Hill, shows that the purpose of the rioters on Capitol Hill was to capture and assassinate elected officials of the United States government”, write prosecutors of the Jan.6 assault.
Mr Chansley, 33, notably left a note for Mr Pence’s attention on the Senate dais where the Deputy Speaker had stood a few minutes earlier, on which was written: “It’s only a matter of time, justice is coming. “ Prosecutors are calling for him to be kept in detention because of “High risk of flight and the danger it represents for the community”.
