President Nicolas Maduro "ready" to discuss with Donald Trump

The Venezuelan President makes a gesture towards his American counterpart. In an interview with the Venezuelan official press agency AVN broadcast by state television, Nicolas Maduro said so " ready " Monday June 22 to discuss " rrespectfully " with Donald Trump.

In an interview published on Sunday by the Axios news site, the American president opened the door to a meeting with Nicolas Maduro, before specifying the following day on Twitter that it would only be to negotiate "A peaceful departure from power" of the Venezuelan President. Nicolas Maduro made no reference to Donald Trump's tweet.

"Just as I spoke with (Joe) Biden, I could talk to Trump "added the Venezuelan president, referring to a meeting he had with the current Democratic candidate for the White House when the latter was vice president of the United States under Barack Obama.

Attempted "framework for democratic transition"

Washington has been seeking since early 2019 to push Nicolas Maduro, whose re-election in 2018 is considered to be "Fraudulent" by the opposition and by part of the international community. The United States and some 50 other countries have recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president.

According to Axios, during the interview, however, Mr. Trump suggested that he did not have much confidence in Juan Guaido, explaining in particular that the recognition of his legitimacy by Washington did not "Had great significance in one way or another".

The Venezuelan President, whose government is subject to a battery of sanctions imposed by Washington, was indicted in March for "Narcoterrorism" by the American justice system with a bonus of 15 million dollars promised for his arrest.

At the same time, faced with the failure of their strategy to oust Mr. Maduro, supported by China and Russia, the United States proposed a new “Framework for democratic transition” in Venezuela, calling on Guaido to step aside pending a presidential election "Free and fair". A proposal immediately rejected by Caracas.
