what was the role of queen elizabeth’s husband?

Philip Mountbatten, the husband of the Queen of England Elizabeth II, died Friday April 9 at the age of 99. The prince consort had been married to the latter since 1947. Crown specialists like to say that the longevity of their couple and his investment in his public functions have made him the most faithful subject of the Queen.

The Duke of Edinburgh never acceded to the title of king because, in the British monarchy, a husband cannot inherit the title of his wife. However, he shared with the latter a common relative: Queen Victoria.

In the monarchy, this former naval officer essentially had a role of public representation. He also liked to present himself as “The most experienced plate revealer in the world”, during inaugurations. On August 2, 2017, he made his last public performance and retired. A first for a prince consort.
