After almost three years at 10 Downing Street, the position of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had become untenable within his camp. Thursday, July 7, after the resignation of fifty ministers, secretaries of state and parliamentarians, he announced that he was leaving the head of his party. However, he will remain Prime Minister until his successor is appointed.
The popularity of “BoJo” had been in free fall for several months, weighed down by numerous scandals. At the beginning of July, the controversy too sealed his fate: he had appointed a minister accused of sexual abuse. After claiming to know nothing about it, Boris Johnson admitted having been warned about it two and a half years earlier.
