Security guard at the French consulate in Saudi Arabia injured in knife attack

A Saudi man was arrested after stabbing a security guard at the French consulate in Jeddah, a city in western Saudi Arabia, official Saudi media and the French embassy reported Thursday (October 29th).

“The assailant was apprehended by Saudi law enforcement immediately after the attack. The vigilante has been transferred to the hospital and his life is not in danger. (…) We call on our compatriots in Saudi Arabia to exercise maximum vigilance ”, wrote the French embassy in a statement.

A reason for the time unknown

Police in Mecca province, where Jeddah is located, said the perpetrator of the attack was Saudi, but did not specify the nationality of the guard, who was slightly injured. The French Embassy in Riyadh strongly condemned this attack. Neither the embassy nor the Saudi authorities gave details of the reason for the attack.

The attack comes amid anger in the Middle East against French President Emmanuel Macron, who has pledged that France will not renounce cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, prompting calls to boycott French products in Arab countries. Muslims around the world commemorate the Prophet’s birth on Thursday.
