A system of massive fraud on the occasion of the American presidential election would it have been discovered by two investigators, including a former FBI? This is the rumor echoed, without the slightest evidence, by several pro-Trump French media.
What the rumor says
Two American investigators, including a former employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), allegedly discovered, with “Video evidence, documents and witnesses” to attest it, the existence of a “Illegal ballot collection operation [qui] could divert 700,000 ballots ”. This assertion has been popularized in particular by far-right websites. Resistances 2020 and Europe Israel.
NO PROOF
This accusation, very popular in American Trumpist circles, is based on a sworn statement that does exist. Signed by a Republican private detective, Charles F. Marler, it dates from September. He explained that a system of fraud had been set up by the Democrats in Harris County, Texas.
Problem: The private investigator claims to have a lot of evidence and testimony, but does not produce any. The certificate, considered vague and lacking sufficient basis, was therefore deemed not to be credible by county officials, reports the American verification site. Snopes.
For lack of evidence, there is no evidence that electoral manipulation took place in Texas. Moreover, the outcome of the vote does not support the idea that a large-scale cheating would have benefited the Democratic Party. The state was indeed won by Donald Trump with 52.8% of the votes.
