All political leaders severely criticized Marine Le Pen, Thursday, January 7, including Emmanuel Macron indirectly, while she – finally – recognized the victory of Joe Biden in the US presidential election. The president of the National Rally (RN) is accused, like Donald Trump, of whom she was one of the supporters in France, of adding fuel to the fire.
The case is undoubtedly a little more complicated, and Marine Le Pen, once again, juggles with a base which is not always on its line. She condemned with one hand, with Republican overtones, the invasion of the Capitol and, with the other, tried not to dig the ditch with her sympathizers.
MEP La République en Marche Stéphane Séjourné described the president of the RN as “Arsonist” ; Valérie Précresse, the president of the Ile-de-France region, considered that “Those for whom Trump is a model in France should think twice” ; the senators of the Communist group declared that this violence is “The culmination of years of complacency vis-à-vis the far right”. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of La France insoumise, asked the RN and its president to “Withdraw their support for Trump”, and sees in these riots “An attempted extreme right-wing putsch”.

There is little doubt that many RN sympathizers rejoiced over the Capitol riots on social media. Aymeric Durox, the RN delegate of Seine-et-Marne, doubts the importance of the sequence “Invasion of #Capitole ». ” Historic event ?, tweeted the activist. In 1967, Black Panthers invaded the California State Capitol with weapons of war. Result: 0 deaths. Today: 4 pro #Trump you are. This must be what we call “white privilege”. “
The parliamentary assistant to Senator RN Stéphane Ravier is on the same wavelength: “Two riots, two atmospheres”, tweeted Antoine Baudino, posting on one side the photo of a Trumpist with his feet on the desk of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, on the other of black rioters hitting an overturned car on fire background. Christian Lechevalier, RN regional advisor for Brittany, tweeted: “This chaos was caused by the scandalous irregularities of your democratic friends, covered by your fellow journalists! “
