The announcement has been awaited since its failure on Super Tuesday. Elizabeth Warren informed her campaign team on Thursday that she is abandoning the Democratic nomination race, without indicating whether she has decided to support another candidate. "I want to take a little time to think about it", she told reporters outside her home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Asked about her possible support for former Vice President Joe Biden or progressive Senator Bernie Sanders, she replied " not today ".

"In this campaign, we were ready to fight", she told her campaign team, according to a statement sent to the AFP. "And I can quote a billionaire who was prevented from buying this election", she said, referring to her attacks noted in a televised debate against ex-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "The fight may take a new shape today, but I will be part of this fight"she said.

Since Wednesday morning, several American media reported that Elizabeth Warren was thinking about the future of her candidacy, as the campaign turned into a duel between Bernie Sanders and former vice president Joe Biden, who joined the moderate camp behind him.

Donald Trump quickly commented on the news, highlighting the disunity in the Democratic camp. For the American president and re-election candidate, Elizabeth Warren should have retired before Super Tuesday to help Bernie Sanders win more.

On Wednesday, businessman Michael Bloomberg learned from his failure in the same Super Tuesday polls, announcing both his withdrawal and his joining Joe Biden's candidacy. Before him, Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg had also abandoned the race and joined Joe Biden.

Arriving in October to the top of the polls for the Democratic primaries, the 70-year-old progressive senator has not won a single one of the twenty or so polls held since the start of the primaries on February 3. Worse, she was only third in the state of Massachusetts, which she has proudly represented in the Senate since 2013, and fourth in the one where she was born, Oklahoma.

Bernie Sanders spoke to Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday. Renting a "Excellent senator", he called "Respect the time and space she needs to make her decision". Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren defend similar ideas, very left for the United States, like the installation of a public and universal health cover. She also spoke with Bernie Sanders' campaign team.

During the recent Democratic debates, she admitted sharing the line of "Bernie", but she assured having, unlike him, the balance sheet and the flexibility to turn promises into action.
