The truce remains fragile in Nagorno-Karabakh

Despite the truce, the town of Ganja was bombed on Sunday 11 October.

Armenia and Azerbaijani, who have been clashing since September 27 in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, had negotiated a humanitarian ceasefire, under the aegis of Moscow, from Saturday noon, in order to exchange prisoners of war and the bodies of victims.

This truce was short-lived, however, since the two camps accused each other of bombing on Saturday. The capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, Stepanakert, was the target of strikes overnight from Saturday to Sunday, according to AFP journalists there.

The conflict has already caused more than 450 confirmed deaths, including 23 Armenian civilians and 31 Azerbaijani. But the real toll could be much bigger. A first war, between 1988 and 1994, left 30,000 dead and hundreds of thousands of refugees.
