As the day before for Olympique Lyonnais (OL) against Juventus Turin, there was not really “a photo” for PSG, Wednesday December 16, against Gornik Leczna in the return match of the 16e Women’s Champions League final round.
If the Lyonnaises, seven-time European champions, had won Tuesday at home, 3 goals to 0 (after having won with difficulty 3-2 in the first leg in Italy), the Parisiennes did not leave, they either, No chance for their Polish opponents: they inflicted a 6-1 (after winning 2-0 in the first leg in Poland).
PSG thus joined OL in 8e finals of the European competition. The two teams will however have to wait until February 16, 2021, and the draw of the matches, to know their future opponents. The matches themselves will be played on March 3 and 4 and March 10 and 11, 2021.
This 200-2021 season is the last with the current formula of this Women’s Champions League. In order to create some clashes between the strongest teams before the quarter-finals, UEFA, the body which oversees European football, has decided to create, from the 2021-2022 season, a group stage on the model of the men’s competition: four teams per group, which compete in two-way matches between October and December, the first two of the group qualifying for the quarter-finals.
