Paris-Saint-Germain formalizes the dismissal of its coach Thomas Tuchel

German technician Thomas Tuchel in Dortmund on February 17.

Already announced in the press on Christmas Eve, the dismissal of the coach of Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG), Thomas Tuchel, was formalized on Tuesday, December 29 by the Parisian club. “After an in-depth analysis of its sporting situation, Paris-Saint-Germain decided to terminate Thomas Tuchel’s contract”, wrote in a press release the club champion of France and vice-champion of Europe.

PSG has not yet appointed the one who will replace the German coach, who had held his post since July 2018. The favorite to succeed him is the Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, whose arrival was notably announced by the team. If this is confirmed, the former technician from Tottenham should be appointed quickly, since the resumption of training after the winter break at PSG is set for January 3.

Despite a convincing victory (4-0 against Strasbourg) in Ligue 1 for his last match, on December 23, Thomas Tuchel, whose contract expired next June, paid the price for his persistent disagreement with PSG sporting director Leonardo . His statements in which he criticized in particular the recruitment policy of his club, yet one of the most active and spendthrift in Europe, certainly did not help his affairs.

95 wins, 12 draws and 20 losses

“I would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for everything they brought to the club, underlined the president of the PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, quoted in the press release. Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into his work, and of course we will remember the good times we shared together. I wish him the best for his future. “

The German technician, 47, concluded his two and a half seasons in Paris with a record of 95 wins, 12 draws and 20 losses. He offered the Parisian club two French league titles (2019, 2020), a Coupe de France (2020), a Coupe de la Ligue (2020) and two Champions Trophies (2018, 2019). He is above all the one who led PSG, last August, to the first Champions League final in its history.

According to the German press, Tuchel should receive six million euros in severance pay, and bounce back quickly in England.
