Nice easily won against Bordeaux and took 2nd place in the standings, Marseille beats Saint-Etienne

The Niçois celebrate their victory against Bordeaux on the occasion of the 4th day of Ligue 1, August 28, 2021.

There was a bit of the 2020-2021 season at the Allianz Riviera this Saturday, August 28 for the match of the 4e Ligue 1 day between OGC Nice and the Girondins de Bordeaux. Six days after the events that led to the early end of the match between Nice and Marseille, the Riviera club had to comply with the decision of the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) and play its match against the Bordelais in camera. This return to the stadium without an audience did not prevent Christophe Galtier’s ambitious team from winning easily after a controlled match (4-0).

Olympique de Marseille also ends this day with a victory against Saint-Etienne (3-1), carried by a velodrome stadium overflowing with enthusiasm.

At the end of this day, Nice is provisionally runner-up to Paris-Saint-Germain in the standings and has just achieved a second victory in a row after its overwhelming success in Lille (4-0), while OM dates back to fifth place.

The Gouiri show

The Niçois opened the scoring thanks to Justin Kluivert’s first Ligue 1 goal, well served by Hicham Boudaoui (7e). Five minutes earlier, Patrick Kluivert’s son offered his team the first opportunity but Benoît Costil was vigilant (2e). His counterpart from Nice, Walter Benitez, was also called upon by Rémi Oudin (23e) and Ui-jo Hwang (26e). But after three days, Nice still hasn’t conceded a single goal.

At the end of a controlled second period, the Aiglons added a last goal thanks to the incoming Khéphren Thuram (85e). Before this fourth goal, the performance of the Azureans had been embellished by the class of Amine Gouiri. The 21-year-old striker found himself at the initiative and at the conclusion of a counter-attack on the second Nice goal (33e), before causing and transforming himself a penalty for the 3-0 (42e).

A successful transfer window for OM

On the OM side, the frantic transfer window of Marseille President Pablo Longoria materialized on the scoreboard with three goals scored by summer recruits: Mattéo Guendouzi (23e), loaned by Arsenal, opened the ball, before the achievements of the Brazilian Gerson (51st) from Flamengo and the Turkish Cengiz Ünder (68e), loaned by Roma.

Beyond the score, OM showed determination and talent, carried by their fiery supporters and an inspired playmaker in the person of Dimitri Payet. It was he who, for example, initiated the action of opening the scoring, a subtle pass to Ünder in depth. The latter centered, Konrad De la Fuente’s strike was blocked, but Guendouzi followed well.

Marseille player Cengiz Ünder, scorer in the 68th minute, against Saint-Etienne, was particularly offensive throughout the meeting.

On the other hand, the partners of Steve Mandanda, who confirmed his rise to power on Saturday, still conceded an avoidable goal, as in every game this season. Timothée Kolodziejczak took advantage of the passivity of Alvaro and Valentin Rongier to equalize from a corner (32e) of the head.

Fortunately, OM were also able to count on Cengiz Ünder, scorer with a nice rolled shot from the left, and involved in the other two goals. the Turk has had a good start to the season, like his team, which took seven points in three matches. The fourth is not yet finished, it is that of Nice, and it must be concluded before the authorities. The disciplinary committee of the LFP will decide, on September 8, on the fate of the Nice-OM match.
