Grandstand. We miss football. Deprived of our passion, we dream of football! The games are now playing in our imaginations … This unprecedented crisis therefore takes away from us these highlights, which usually brighten up our daily lives, but it should not weaken us. It should allow us to reshuffle the cards in order to come out better. Collectively. We are all waiting to be able to see our artists on the field. As a way out of confinement takes shape, the resumption of professional championships occupies all our minds and a question arises: what should we prevail?
Modern football, the third vector of socialization behind the family and the school, is a complex, unique ecosystem which, to make us dream, cultivates its nuggets: the players. Raised to the rank of models, they are hailed, adulated, imitated like no other artist. Supporters, clubs, leagues, federations, keystones of a sport with an incomparable societal role, are there for them and with them. This role is of even greater importance in the difficult period which opens for a large majority of the French. Also, it is more than ever necessary to protect the players so that they can fully fulfill the three missions which are theirs: sport, economic and – above all – societal.
"We have to think long term about our responsibilities"
It seems so obvious that we forget it most often: without footballers, there is no football! We must therefore take care of them and protect them from the risks to which they are exposed. The medical analysis conducted by the UNFP [National Union of Professional Footballers] and Fifpro [International Federation of Professional Football Associations] alert on the high physical risks in the event of matches organized every three days after such a long period of stoppage: increased fatigue and increase by six in the incidence of muscle injuries at the end of the second match, lower performance! Should these risks be taken? The question deserves to be asked, because it is a real issue for the players, for their career, beyond, for the entire industry and, above all, for the spectacle that football can offer. Will he be able to meet expectations, especially in these difficult times? We have to think about it collectively.
