Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark… which teams have the best statistics from the first round?

After three games, the Italians appear to be the fittest team of this Euro 2021, whether in attack or defense.

After the group stage, sixteen teams have qualified for the knockout stages of Euro 2021. Which of them have the strongest profile to win the competition? The Decoders went through the statistics of their matches.

  • Netherlands, Italy: the kings of the attack

With eight goals scored in three games, the Netherlands have the best attack of the first round. But it was Italy that won the title of the most offensive team, with 60 strikes. As for the most effective selection, it is Portugal: seven goals in just 25 strikes, or 28% of success – including three penalties, it is true.

France is among the good students, nothing more: eighth best attack with four goals scored and eighth more realistic with 13.33% of goals per shot, it is only 13e for the number of attempted strikes (30).

Among the outsiders, note the performance of Denmark, which made the second highest number of shots (59), while Switzerland, future opponents of the Blues in the round of 16, is fifth, with 49 attempts.

  • England, Italy: the iron defenses

England and Italy have conceded no goals during these group stages. Spain and Italy are the hardest to play, having only suffered twelve shots in three games. As for Belgium, despite 33 shots suffered, it conceded only one goal, or 96.97%.

Among the outsiders, we still find Denmark, on the podium of the teams conceding the fewest chances (13 strikes). Wales have the most heroic defense (or luckiest, your choice): despite 59 shots suffered, the team conceded only two goals, or 57 unconverted shots.

With three goals conceded, France is the 9e best defense, and the 5e team to the number of shots received (25). Switzerland, with five goals conceded and 44 strikes suffered, is, according to these statistics, more friable.

  • Turkey, Scotland: donkey caps

Turkey, Finland and Scotland each end with just one goal scored. Particularly not very dangerous offensively, Finland and Hungary only attempted 19 shots. Scotland are the most clumsy team: it took 41 strikes to score a single goal, or 2.44% success. The price of the mad fireworks goes to the Danes, who reached the trifle of 54 badly framed or repulsed strikes.

Note that Denmark is also the most cursed team, with four goals conceded in 13 shots suffered. Turkey inherits the award for the most besieged team (63 shots against it), and shares with North Macedonia the title of worst defense (eight goals conceded).
