Cameroon: relive the qualification of Cameroonians in overtime thanks to Karl Toko-Ekambi

Cameroon qualifies for the World Cup after a crazy crazy match!

We thought we had seen the craziest outcome of the day after Senegal’s victory over Egypt on penalties. But that was without counting on the meeting between Cameroon and Algeria, in the World Cup play-off! The two teams fought a huge duel on Tuesday evening, concluded in the last minutes of extra time. While Ahmed Touba thought he was the hero of the evening when he found the header in the 118th minute of play, Karl Toko-Ekambi burst into the box at the last second (120th + 4) to offer a unexpected qualification for his country (2-2 on the two matches, but qualification for Cameroon thanks to the away goal rule counting double).

Before this crazy end to the match, Algeria seemed to be well on its way to enjoying a much quieter evening. Starting with a goal lead after their success in the first leg (1-0), and playing in front of their home crowd, the Fennecs dominated the first minutes of play. Yet it was Eric Choupo-Moting who first found the way nets this evening by scoring from the right following a big mess in the penalty area (22nd).

The following ? Two teams wanting to make a difference, but also not wanting to discover themselves too much for fear of being punished by a counter goal. The Algerians were still the most enterprising and it took a great André Onana in the cages of Cameroon to defend the chances of the Indomitable Lions, in particular thanks to an incredible double parade (68th).

Unable to decide, the two teams therefore pushed the fun to the extra time, where Algeria further accentuated its domination. Almost dying, Cameroon therefore waited to be forced to score to throw their last strength into the battle and obtain their qualification thanks to Toko Ekambi and the double counting away goal rule.

Cameroon is therefore the 7th country to qualify for the World Cup tonight, after Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Ghana, Poland and Porutgal.
