A policeman sent back to an Assize Court for “violence with a weapon”

On January 25, Tamara Phillips, examining magistrate in Reims, decided to send a police officer to the Marne Assize Court, for “violence with the use of a weapon” after the knockout of a supporter from the Bastia football club, on the night of February 13 to 14, 2016. The information was revealed by the France 3 Corse site.

That evening, the Reims team lost 1 to 0 against SC Bastia on the lawn of the Auguste-Delaune stadium. The meeting is not classified as high risk, the staff of CRS have not even been hired. But, after a few incidents, including a burnt seat in the sports arena and offensive tags referring to the prefect Claude Erignac, assassinated in Ajaccio on February 6, 1998, the match continues in the streets of the city.

According to police reports, out of the 169 Corsican supporters to have made the trip, about thirty invective the police at the end of the meeting before scattering in the city center, where smoke bombs are discovered rue de Talleyrand. Among the troublemakers, a small group brings together less than ten individuals, including Maxime Beux, then 22 years old and figure of Bastia 1905, the ultras of the Corsican club.

Around 10:30 p.m., spotted by the anti-crime squad (BAC) with two friends, the young man is chased by a police vehicle, on the hood of which he allegedly kicked. A few minutes later, he collapsed, seriously injured in the face during his arrest before being taken into custody at the Reims police station, where he must fake a loss of consciousness so that the firefighters can intervene, an hour and a half later. The medical examinations carried out after his evacuation to a Reims hospital center are final: his left eyeball burst suddenly violently, causing “immediate and total blindness” which was finally diagnosed.

“Rare event”

Was the supporter hit by a defensive ball thrower (LBD) shot as initially convinced? Did he fall on a sign post in the rue des Elus, where the events took place, as claimed by the BAC official who made his arrest? Several forensic examinations, scientific police analyzes as well as a reconstruction will refute both of these hypotheses: a blow from a telescopic defense stick is probably at the origin of Mr. Beux’s bewilderment. .
