Federico Martin Aramburu, 42, a former Argentinian rugby international who had played for a club in France, was shot dead in Paris on the night of Friday to Saturday March 19 after an altercation in a bar and an investigation for “assassination” has been opened.
The facts took place around 6 a.m. on boulevard Saint-Germain in the 6th arrondissement, after ” a disagreement “ between two groups of people, a police source told AFP. The groups were separated by bouncers, she added, but the alleged perpetrators “came back shortly afterwards with a vehicle and fired shots”.
“Multiple effects” bullets were found on the spot, added a source close to the investigation and the sportsman died on the spot as a result of these injuries. The suspects were still being sought late Saturday morning, according to sources familiar with the matter. A flagrance investigation for assassination has been opened and entrusted to the criminal brigade, said the Paris prosecutor’s office, requested by AFP.
Federico Martin Aramburu had 22 caps with Argentina. He had played in Biarritz (2004-2006), with whom he won the Top 14 twice (2005, 2006), as well as in Perpignan (2006-2008) and Dax (2008-2010). He had played two matches during the 2007 World Cup, finished in third place by the Pumas.
“The entire BOPB sends its most sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, and assures them of its full support”, tweeted his former club Biarritz Olympique. His former club Perpignan also shared on Twitter his “tremendous sadness” at the announcement of his death “in tragic circumstances” and addressed “To his family and loved ones his most sincere condolences”.
Since retiring from sport, he lived in Biarritz and worked for a tourism company.
