Iranian authorities denounced Sunday, December 29, the"Interference" from Paris in the case of Fariba Adelkhah, Franco-Iranian anthropologist detained in Iran on charges of" spying " since June and on hunger strike since December 24.
On Friday, the French foreign ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to Paris to denounce the detention "Intolerable" from Mme Adelkhah and French researcher Roland Marchal. Authorities said in a statement "Extreme concern" on M's situationme Adelkhah, "Who stopped eating and reiterated (their) consular access request ".
"The French Foreign Ministry’s press release about an Iranian national is an act of interference. We consider this request as having no legal basis "said Iranian foreign spokesman Abbas Moussavi in a statement. " The person in question (…) was arrested for spying "he added, adding that the researcher's lawyer had been informed of the details of the case. As for Mr. Marchal, he is detained for having "Conspiracy against national security", and his consulate was able to access him " at many times ", said Moussavi. His lawyer is also in contact with the justice, according to him.
On hunger strike since December 24
The two researchers, members of the Center for International Research (CERI) of Sciences Po Paris, were arrested on June 5 concomitantly by the guards of the revolution. M’s arrestme Adelkhah was confirmed by Iranian justice in July, while the case of Mr. Marchal was not made public until October after the publication of an article in the Figaro. On December 10, Emmanuel Macron asked Iran to release " without delay " the two French researchers.
The French academic has publicly announced, via an open letter to the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI), that she started a hunger strike on December 24, with one of her fellow prisoners, the Australian lawyer. Kylie Moore-Gilbert, to protest his detention.
The two university women said they had been subjected to "Psychological torture" and to "Numerous violations of (their) fundamental human rights ". Qualifying as "Grotesque" Iranian accusations against the two French academics, some of their colleagues called in France in October to suspend all scientific and academic cooperation with Tehran in protest.
Iran, which is also experiencing strong tensions with several European countries, including France, on the nuclear issue, does not recognize dual nationality, and therefore considers Mme Adelkhah as an Iranian citizen.
