At least 80 people have died in the US state of Kentucky as a result of tornadoes ravaging the central and southern United States on Friday, December 10.
“This number will exceed a hundred”Governor Andy Beshear said on CNN, calling the series of tornadoes “The most deadly” of Kentucky history. The state was swept for more than 320 kilometers by one of these tornadoes.
Neighboring states of Illinois and Tennessee have also been affected. The total death toll across the United States now stands at at least 94.
US President Joe Biden declared a state of major disaster in Kentucky on Sunday evening. This declaration, made at the request of the governor of Kentucky, will help unlock more federal aid. The president intends to be there as soon as possible.
