What the rumor says
Several Facebook pages like Big Mouth Magazine disseminate photos presented as "American soldiers going to war against Iran". Six "Strong images" who have caught the attention of thousands of Internet users on the social network:
WHY IT'S WRONG
As a reminder, despite the undeniable escalation of violence between Iran and the United States for months, it cannot be said that the two countries are in "War". For some observers, the hypothesis of a military conflict between the two countries is now a real "Possibility". The United States announced that it will deploy 3,000 to 3,500 additional troops to the Middle East as a precaution on Friday, January 3. But these are currently only alert forces, and no decision has been made on a possible deployment to Iran.
These six photos date from 2018 or before
In reality, the six images of American soldiers allegedly ready to "Go to war" against Iran have nothing to do with this news. We could not confirm the exact origin of each of these photographs, but they all date back several years. None is presented as a soldier's departure from the war:
