The long-awaited result consolidates Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election. The Democratic candidate won the state of Arizona, US media reported Thursday (November 12th). This is the first time since 1996 that the Democratic camp has won victory in this state.
NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN have declared the Democratic candidate – with a lead of more than 11,000 votes – the winner in this close election, which allows Mr. Biden to count on eleven additional voters. Fox News and Associated Press had already given the winning Democratic candidate the night after the November 3 election, to the chagrin of his Republican rival, Donald Trump, the outgoing president.
With this victory in Arizona, Mr. Biden now has 290 voters, when he needed 270 to win the presidential election and enter the White House on January 20. The result has yet to be announced in two states, North Carolina and Georgia.
Donald Trump still refuses the results
Mr. Trump still refuses to recognize the victory of his Democratic rival, more than a week after the poll. The outgoing president took back to Twitter on Thursday unfounded information that a voting system, called Dominion, had “Erased” 2.7 million votes in favor across the country and would have re-allocated hundreds of thousands to Mr Biden.
Several US electoral authorities replied in a joint statement that they had not found ” no proof “ lost or altered ballots, or hacked voting systems. “The November 3 election was the safest in the history of the United States”, said these local and national authorities responsible for ballot security, including the Agency for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security (CISA), which reports to the Ministry of Internal Security.
“There is no evidence of a voting system having erased, lost or changed ballots, or having been hacked in any way”, they underline in their press release.
