On March 31, 2019, the United Kingdom was supposed to formally leave the European Union (EU). We know the story: he didn't let go until January 31, 2020.

This year, March 31 was to correspond to another "exit", that of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. But they did not wait for the official date to fly to Canada.

Did they imagine returning at the end of March to give the queen a last kiss? It is a failure: to curb the coronavirus pandemic, Justin Trudeau closed all borders in his country on March 18. So here is the young couple freed from their royal obligations, far from the United Kingdom and the supposed ingratitudes of the island media.

The British do not seem to greatly regret the couple: according to a survey conducted online March 10 by Daily Express of about 20,000 internet users, 85% of them said they were not "Sad" of the departure of Meghan and Harry.

Many added that their main concern was that they would continue to pay for the lifestyle of the Duchess and Duke of Sussex, including their safety – Canadians have refused to bear the cost of the latter. "Close the door behind you and pay the bills before you leave", posted a reader on the newspaper's website.

Successful farewell tour

On the other hand, the journalists, who massively took sides against the couple when it announced, at the beginning of January, its intention to leave, were shown much more ambiguous these last days.

In 2019, the tabloids had sounded the charge – above all – against Meghan, criticizing the redevelopments to 2.4 million pounds (2.7 million euros) of Frogmore House, the cottage offered by the queen, denouncing the propensity of the couple to prefer private jets to commercial flights while making the moral to the rest of the world on the environment. They also had very little appreciation for their way of snubbing the "Royal rota" (journalists and photographers accredited to follow members of the royal family) for the benefit of Twitter and Instagram.

The media lost nothing of their bite for the last "tour" in mid-March in London of the prince and his American wife, but even the Sun conceded lip service that the farewell tour was a success. Some have admitted that they will regret this "Power couple" and this ex-actress, probably not British enough and too jet-setter for the transplant with the Windsor family to take, but who caught the light so well.
