"The Idlib debacle is also ours, it is that of our world, of the idea of the human world"

Tribune. We celebrate the holiday season. They are living the end of the world. In northern Syria, a barrage of bombs hits millions of civilians gathered in the Idlib region. Far beyond the insurgents and combatants, civilians are now dying by the hundreds and tens of thousands are fleeing in whole families.

The majority of Idlib residents are displaced people who have fled the fighting that has ravaged Syria since 2011, or who have been forcibly taken to this space that has become a mass trap. They have already survived the carnage and they find themselves in the most absolute destitution: pushed once again into exile, they pile up on the roads, without knowing where to go, without any protection now.

Hundreds of thousands of children, women and men are now fleeing Idlib, more abandoned than ever. They build makeshift shelters, in the cold, in the rain, without food or access to healthcare. These civilians are not collateral victims: they are targeted as such by the regime, and the rescuers and caregivers who try to protect them, like those who are still trying to inform, are hit hard.

They find themselves trapped between the jihadists of Hayat Tahrir Al-Cham, an armed minority that controls different sectors of this region, and the bombings of the regime of Bashar Al-Assad supported by the army of Putin. To the north, the huge camps built on the Turkish border are dramatically saturated.

Everywhere, on the roads, the same question comes up, incessant: "Why does nobody care about our fate?" Are we less than human beings? The massive exodus of Idlib civilians, bombarded relentlessly by Russian planes, cannot be briefly briefed here and there. It is impossible to get used to the massacre of Syrian civilians, to pretend that they no longer exist, excluded from the species when the executioners of Bashar, Putin, Khamenei physically tear them away.

Western hypocrisy

The rewriting of history is going well, and speeches full of lies are gaining ground. The followers of Russian propaganda explain to us that it is Assad or the terrorists, and that, therefore, it will be Assad: they thus confirm the slogan of the regime's thuriferaers since 2011: "Bashar or we burn the country". The actions of Hayat Tahrir Al-Cham serve as justification for the Syrian regime and fuel the hypocrisy of Western leaders.
