France, UK and Germany together called on Iran on Sunday to return "In full respect" of its obligations under the Iranian nuclear deal, which Tehran has started to unravel.
"Today, our message is clear: we remain attached" to the nuclear deal “And its preservation; we urge Iran to reverse all measures inconsistent with the agreement; we call on Iran to refrain from any further violent or proliferation action; and we remain ready to enter into dialogue with Iran on this basis in order to preserve the stability of the region ", the three European capitals said in a joint statement, in the context of tensions between Iran and the United States.
France, the United Kingdom and Germany are the three European countries which signed in 2015, with the United States, China and Russia, the agreement with Iran on the nuclear power, which Donald Trump decided to come out in 2018. Donald Trump recently called on the Europeans to slam the door of the agreement and to strengthen their own military effort in the Middle East.
But Paris, London and Berlin prefer to recall their attachment to the agreement, while considering "Essential for Iran to return to full compliance with its obligations under the agreement". "We have expressed our deep concern at the actions taken by Iran in violation of its commitments since July 2019. These actions must be reversed", add the three European capitals.
"Defining a long-term framework for Iran's nuclear program"
Tehran said on January 5 no longer feel bound by any limits "On the number of its centrifuges" used for nuclear fuel production. The announcement came two days after Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was killed in Baghdad by an American drone, the culmination of mounting tensions between Tehran and Washington.
London, Berlin and Paris emphasize in their declaration their " disposition " to work "In favor of de-escalation and stability in the region". They reaffirm the need to "Respond – diplomatically and significantly – to common concerns about Iran's destabilizing regional activities, including those related to its missile programs".
"We will also have to define a long-term framework for Iran's nuclear program", they point out. In their press release, Europeans cite the role played by "Corps of Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (CGRI) and the Al-Quds Force", in charge of Tehran's external operations, in the "Recent events" who "Have highlighted Iran's destabilizing role in the region". Finally, Berlin, Paris and London say "Take note of Iran's announcement regarding the destruction of UIA flight PS752", Tehran admitted on Saturday that it accidentally shot down the Ukrainian airliner, killing 176 people.
The Europeans have warned in recent days that they could decide to trigger a dispute settlement mechanism under the nuclear deal, which could lead to the reinstatement of sanctions by the UN Security Council, if Iran does not did not amount to a respect for its commitments.
