Stefanos Tsitsipas knocks down Rafael Nadal at Australian Open

This is the first real big surprise of the Australian Open. Rafael Nadal was eliminated in the quarter-finals on Wednesday February 17 by Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek, 6th tennis player in the world, won in five sets (3-6, 2-6, 7-6 [4], 6-4, 7-5) against the Spaniard, world number two.

The start of the match, however, did not augur such an outcome. On the contrary, Rafael Nadal seemed set on winning easily by winning the first two sets. But Stefanos Tsitsipas recovered in the third set, winning in the tie-break.

This is only the third time in his career that Rafael Nadal has lost a match after winning the first two sets.

““ I was very nervous at the start. And I don’t know what happened after the third set. I was flying like a little bird, everything was working for me… It’s indescribable I have no words… I found my tennis suddenly. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to fight at such a level and to give everything on the court ”, commented the Greek who thus reaches his second semi-final in Melbourne, his third in a Grand Slam.

He will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev (4th in the world), winner of his compatriot Andrey Rublev a little earlier.
