relive the second coronation of Iga Swiatek Porte d’Auteuil, at the expense of Cori Gauff

Iga Swiatek triumphs for the second time at Roland-Garros

She was the huge favorite and assumed her rank throughout the tournament! Iga Swiatek won her second Roland-Garros after 2020 on Saturday June 4, easily beating American Cori “Coco” Gauff in the final (6-1, 6-3). She thus signs her thirty-fifth victory in a row, equaling the record of Venus Williams, the only player to have achieved such a series in the XXIe century.

However, the pressure was well on Swiatek before the meeting, she who, at 21, almost acted as an experienced player against the American Gauff, who discovered these heights in Grand Slam at just 18 years old. But as in most of these games this year Porte d’Auteuil, Swiatek did not ask questions and started with a bang. After a few minutes, she already led 4-0 and was launched at full speed in her quest for a second Roland. Three games later, she completed the first set 6-1.

Very nervous, Gauff was completely taken by the event and by the pace of her opponent. Unable to put her game in place, she still had a burst at the start of the second set. Finally taking advantage of a few fouls from Swiatek, she managed to make the break and lead 2-0.

But the court Philippe-Chatrier did not even have time to believe in the extension of the fight that the Pole had already equalized, to chain five games in a row. Without trembling, and surely aware of her margin during the meeting, Swiatek won the second round, and especially Roland-Garros. Everyone was waiting for her and she did it anyway, that’s perhaps her greatest achievement during this fortnight.
