Rafael Nadal, defending champion, eliminated in the 2ᵉ round

It’s over for Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open. The Spaniard, defending champion, victim of hip pain, lost in three sets (6-4, 6-4, 7-5) against the American Mackenzie McDonald, Wednesday January 18th.

In the second set, after a run, the 36-year-old Spaniard suddenly winced as he held his left hip. The world number 2 refused to give up, but it had become almost impossible for him to move against a 65-ranked opponente world, and he only held on as best he could until defeat.
