Mladenovic wins second Australian Open doubles with Babos

They have eleven straight wins in a row: Kristina Mladenovic and her Hungarian friend Timea Babos win their second Australian Open in doubles. The Franco-Hungarian pair beat Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-wei 6-2, 6-1 in the Australian Open final.

Two and a half months after winning the Fed Cup with France against Australia, Mladenovic therefore raised a new trophy. "Maybe some of you hate me, she launched to the public, in reference to the disappointment she inflicted on them in the Fed Cup. But I love playing in Australia. This is the third trophy I have won and I look forward to coming back next year. "

Mladenovic and Babos clinch their third Grand Slam title together, having already won Roland-Garros last year and the 2018 Australian Open. The French won the first of her four major double ladies tournaments, together with her compatriot Caroline Garcia, in 2016 at Roland Garros.

In singles, Mladenovic and Babos were both eliminated in the first round: the Frenchwoman (41e world singles) by the no 2 world, Karolina Pliskova, and the Hungarian (88e) by the Polish Iga Swiatek (56e). Friends outside the circuit, they have not lost a double match since the Masters of the end of the year, won in November in Shenzhen, where they defended their title, and are only two games away from their record victories, established in 2019 between the Istanbul tournament and Wimbledon.
