Lucas Pouille announces the end of his collaboration with Amélie Mauresmo

At the end of two years of collaboration, Amélie Mauresmo will no longer train Lucas Pouille. The 26-year-old Northerner, 69e in the ATP ranking, announced Saturday, October 24 on his Twitter account.

Their collaboration – formalized in December 2018 – had started on the hats of wheel, with a semi-final of the Australian Open in 2019, lost sharply to the Serbian Novak Djokovic.

“The global Covid-19 situation and what it imposes as protocols on the tennis world no longer allow Amélie to manage both her family life and her commitment to Lucas”, explained the player in a press release, in which he specifies that he is “Recompose your team”. The former player is the mother of two children.

Lucas Pouille also announced that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and that he would be in solitary confinement for a period of seven days, although he has not yet “Developed as the loss of smell as a symptom”.

Setbacks and elbow injury

Lucas Pouille, who peaked at the 10e world place in March 2018, has over the last eighteen months accumulated disappointments and other health problems, including a persistent right elbow injury, which prevented him from playing any tournament on the main circuit in 2020. His only appearance in competition this year dates back to March, during the Challenger tournament in Indian Wells (California), where he lost as soon as he entered the running.

Before coaching the Frenchman, Amélie Mauresmo, 41, had been in charge of the French Fed Cup team between 2012 and 2016, as well as the Scotsman Andy Murray from 2014 to 2016. She had also been, in 2019, appointed to succeed Yannick Noah at the head of the men’s Davis Cup, before giving up this post.

The former player, who was world number one, has won 25 titles on the WTA circuit, including two Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006).
