Caroline Garcia after her victory over Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the third round of the US Open, in New York, September 2, 2022.

On her momentum in recent weeks, Carline Garcia, 17e world, totally dominated the 2019 winner of the New York major, the Canadian Bianca Andreescu (48e). A victory in two sets (6-3, 6-2) and one hour twenty-seven game.

“I’m very happy with the way I played and to be in the second week. It was a very committed match. Lots of rallies… Every point, every game was very intense”welcomed the interested party at the end of the meeting.

At 28, the Lyonnaise had already played in the round of 16 in the other three Grand Slam tournaments – Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon – and she had even made it to the quarterfinals in Paris in 2017, but she did not never reached this stage of the competition in New York.

“It’s the first time I’ve been in the second week here, it gives me confidence. Three victories in a row is great”explained the player, who remains on her victory at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati (Ohio) – category just below the Grand Slam – at the end of August.

“These are games that give pleasure, that give confidence. It allows you to see what works. For me, it is clear. I want to continue in this direction. »
