PSG supporters will not be able to travel to Lyon on Sunday

Paris-Saint-Germain supporters will not be able to accompany their team to Lyon on Sunday for the 20e Ligue 1 day due to a “Real and serious risk of confrontation between the supporters of the two clubs”, according to a decree of the Ministry of the Interior published on Saturday January 8 in the Official Journal.

“The individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person availing himself of the quality of supporter of Paris-Saint-Germain or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the region Ile-de-France, of a on the one hand, and the municipalities of Décines-Charpieu, Meyzieu and Lyon (Rhône), on the other hand ”, specifies the decree.

The text emphasizes that the trips of the PSG are “Frequently a source of public disorder”, such as brawls, violence against the police or the throwing of firecrackers, smoke or agricultural bombs, causes of injuries or of fires.

“A strong desire for revenge”

The Interior Ministry also notes that during meetings in Lyon, some supporters of Olympique Lyonnais “Frequently demonstrate their violent behavior, manifested around and in the stadiums”.

Sunday’s meeting, an important poster for Ligue 1, could also “Be marked by a strong desire for revenge on the part of the supporters of the two teams”, the ministry is also worried, referring to the incidents that occurred in the stands during the Paris FC-OL meeting counting for the 32e Coupe de France final on December 17, which was attended by many PSG supporters.

Paris FC and Lyon had been eliminated from the Coupe de France, and OL also suspended from the competition from 2022-23 and deprived of their traveling supporters until the end of the season.
