PSG knock out OL in round of 16

The footballers of Paris-Saint-Germain, blown 6-1 in mid-November in Lyon, took a resounding revenge, Saturday January 29, against their great rivals Olympique Lyonnais (3-0) in the Coupe de France , earning their ticket to the quarter-finals along with a welcome boost of confidence.

The poster between the two heavyweights of women’s football was as usual disputed under high tension, and it was PSG who left the ring with a smile, two and a half months after being knocked out in Lyon. The capital club had never scored three goals for the Lyonnaises.

For the Fenottes, there will be no third title in a row in the Coupe de France, after 2019 and 2020 (the 2021 edition had been canceled). Of the three goals at the start of the season, with the championship and the Champions League, “unfortunately one of them flies away. We will see our ability to get back to work, to have the mental resources to get the two we have left., projected the Lyon coach, Sonia Bompastor.

“The girls had a great game, leaving nothing to Lyon”, appreciated the Parisian coach, Didier Ollé-Nicolle. His team has 19 wins this season (in 20 games), with no goals conceded, but “we are not going to ignite”, he promised.

In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the domination of the Parisiennes materialized in the second half thanks to the French internationals Sandy Baltimore (48and minute), Kadidiatou Diani (76and) and Marie Antoinette Katoto (85and).

Lyon goalkeeper injured

Sitting in the stands, not far from Lyonnaises Amel Majri and Amandine Henry, injured, coach Corinne Deacon was able to admire the efficiency of her attackers and took advantage of several duels between Bleues: Geyoro – Bacha in the middle, Karchaoui – Cascarino and Diani – Morroni on the sides, Katoto – Renard in front of the Lyon cage.

She was also able to see in her works the Parisian Kheira Hamraoui, victim of a violent ambush ten days before the shipwreck in Lyon in the championship, and holder on Saturday for the second time in a row, six days after her recovery in the championship at Saint-Etienne (5-0). Despite a few lost balls, the former FC Barcelona midfielder has often spoken about her technical accuracy and her power. His long passes also made it possible to launch several offensives. One of them led to the biggest action in Paris in the first period: launched by number 10, Diani escaped on the right wing before crossing for Katoto whose recovery, countered, fell behind the bar transverse (29and).

On the action, goalkeeper Christiane Endler, who moved from Paris to Lyon last summer, injured her adductors, and had to be replaced just before half-time by Emma Holmgren.

His Parisian counterpart Barbora Votikova had a happier afternoon. The Czech, starting goalkeeper after the surprise retirement of Stephanie Labbé, won a decisive duel ahead of Melvine Malard (67and) before being saved by its crossbar (74and) on a powerful strike from Dzsenifer Marozsan, of which she stopped another attempt (89and).

Lyonnaises and Parisiennes have an appointment at the end of May to settle their accounts in the league, but their reunion could take place sooner: in the event of qualification at the end of March, they will cross swords in the semi-finals of the Ligue des champions, in April.
