Lyon qualified in additional time thanks to a penalty from Houssem Aouar in Nice (1-2), Thursday 30 January, at the end of the 8e of the Coupe de France and will receive Marseille in the next round, for the shock of the quarterfinals.

The Rhone coach, Rudi Garcia, will therefore join Olympique de Marseille (OM), his former club, for the second time in the season. But after being " well received " at Stade Vélodrome, notably by Dimitri Payet, on November 10 (OM's 2-1 victory), this time, the Lyonnais coach will play at home.

Lyon therefore continues to chain meetings every three days. A hellish pace… Indeed, before this big duel at Décines on February 11 or 12, the Gones will replay in Nice on Sunday, then receive Amiens before moving to the Parc des Princes against PSG, in Ligue 1.

But this team, still qualified in four competitions, does not give up. Like Houssem Aouar's penalty kick, in penalty time, one minute after the equalizer for Nice.

six changes

Quickly, however, Rudi Garcia's men showed who was going to master the encounter. Despite six changes in the starting team compared to that which started against Toulouse (3-0), despite an evolution of the system, with a central defense to three, they were superior from the first minute.

After a quarter of an hour, they took the advantage. On a very good cross from Maxwel Cornet, Stanley Nsoki did not appreciate the trajectory of the ball. Behind him, Moussa Dembelé, in very good shape today, hastened to validate the occasion, on a sumptuous sequence of chest-recovery half-volley sumptuous (0-1, 15e).

Until the break, Olympique Lyonnais surpassed its opponent. Because, if at 0-0, Hicham Boudaoui had a great opportunity, rejected by Christian Andersen on just before his goal line (12e), the people of Nice were no longer able to outsmart the vigilance of Ciprian Tatarusanu. Like Boudaoui's totally failed strike (32e), symbol of the helplessness of the Aiglons.

The Reds and Blacks don't give up

In the second period, the Red and Black did not give up. Despite a real technical deficit, they gradually returned to the game. Lyon fell asleep. Patrick Vieira brought in Pierre Lees-Melou and Myziane Maolida who brought a breath of fresh air.

If, served by Myziane, Kasper Dolberg failed to equalize with a heel (88e), Adam Ounas, however long in difficulty, thought he offered the extensions to his family. Tatarusanu could not do anything about the purity of his strike (1-1, 89e).

But in the Nice euphoria, it was the captain, Dante, who cracked. His very dangerous tackle on Karl Toko Ekambi could have excluded him. He has "Merely" cost a penalty, which Houssem Aouar transformed from the left (1-2, 90e2). And it’s Lyon that will receive Marseille in quarter…
