130,000 fans in Seville for the final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Glasgow Rangers

Wednesday, May 18, from 9 p.m., the Germans of Eintracht Frankfurt and the Scots of Glasgow Rangers oppose in the final of the Europa League at the Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium in Seville. The German club estimated that around 50,000 of its supporters made the trip to Andalusia. Additional flights have even been scheduled to reach Seville. On the Rangers side, around 80,000 supporters made the trip.
The authorities have deployed a large security system, with 5,000 personnel between the police, private security agents and emergency services.
On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, “a fight took place in front of the cathedral of Seville” where two hundred Eintracht supporters “attacked Glasgow Rangers supporters”, police said in a statement released on Wednesday. German supporters also “thrown glass bottles, smoke bombs and tables towards national police officers”, also specifies the press release. Five German supporters were arrested for “disturbing public order”. The police did not report any injuries, apart from a contusion in the head for a Scottish supporter.
On Tuesday, the coaches of both teams, Oliver Glasner (Eintracht) and Giovanni Van Bronckhorst (Rangers) called on their supporters to calm down.
“It’s not a question of numbers, 50 supporters can be enough to sow chaos. I just want to tell the fans that they are enjoying this moment. It’s not often you get the chance to cheer on your team in a European final, so let them cause no problems and let the game decide who wins the game. Half of the people will go home disappointed and the other half happy, but the city of Seville has worked hard to welcome us in the best possible conditions, so we mustn’t leave anything negative behind.”said Van Bronckhorst on Tuesday at a pre-match press conference.
