This barbaric assassination weakens President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador ("AMLO"), whose security strategy is challenged in the face of soaring violence linked to organized crime. Their cruelty is cold on the back: Monday, around 9:40, a first truck was targeted at the heavy weapon. The driver and her four children – an 8-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl and 6-month-old twins – were all charred by the blast, authorities said, due to heavy gunfire. An hour and twenty minutes later, two other vans, carrying two women and eight miners, were riddled with bullets, in turn, a little further. The two female drivers and two children, about ten years old, died instantly. The others survived, including a 9-month-old baby. His mother saved him by hiding him in his vehicle before succumbing to his injuries. The others owe their greetings to the heroism of the oldest (13 years old) who camouflaged them behind shrubs before walking for six hours to his community to ask for help. The five survivors, some shot and wounded, were taken to a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. They are out of danger.
"Confusion" on the part of the killers
One of the deceased female drivers is a cousin of Julian LeBaron, the famous Mormon leader who has been campaigning against mafia violence since the assassination of his brother in 2009 in the neighboring state of Chihuahua. The first elements of the investigation implicate the regional gang "La Liña", linked to the cartel of Juarez. But the general, Homero Mendoza, confirmed Wednesday the track of" a confusion " from the killers of La Liña. The latter would have taken Mormon cars for those of their rivals, Los Salazar, linked to the cartel of Sinaloa. Both gangs are waging a bloody war for control of this strategic area of drug trafficking to the United States.
