Second departure in barely a week. On Wednesday October 19, British Prime Minister Liz Truss lost her Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, five days after dismissing her Chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng. In the evening, after Downing Street tried to force the hand of elected Conservatives to vote in favor of the very controversial hydraulic fracturing (extraction of rock gas), several media reported that Wendy Morton, the head of discipline of vote within the party, was also reluctant to leave – Downing Street would later claim she was staying.
These evictions or hesitations in key positions in the cabinet further weaken a suspended leader, who no longer has either authority or political line after having had to abandon her economic program, in order to calm financial markets which refused her massive cuts unfunded taxes.
Suella Braverman will not be missed by the left and all those who disavowed her reactionary and anti-migration positions. This staunch Brexiteer, one of the right-wing leaders of the Tory party, had no words harsh enough against strikers, climate activists, all the so-called wokes and others “tofu eaters”. Above all, she intended to carry out a policy of drastic restriction of migration, and had even admitted ” dream ” planes full of asylum seekers taking off for Rwanda – the Johnson government has signed a partnership for the East African country to welcome people who have crossed the English Channel on inflatable boats.
The minister confirmed her resignation in an inflammatory letter acknowledging “a technical violation” rules, after sending an official document from his private email, while denouncing a Truss government that would have “broken promises” made to his constituents, including that of “reducing migration figures”. The Prime Minister, who has repeatedly spoken out against excessive immigration restrictions, quickly replaced Mrs.me Braverman by Grant Shapps, one of the main supporters of Rishi Sunak, his unsuccessful opponent in the Conservative primary. This recruitment has an obvious goal: to try to neutralize this skilful opponent, one of the craftsmen of the first capitulation of Mr.me Truss on its economic program – it had to, at the beginning of October, give up the abolition of a slice of income tax intended to favor the wealthiest.
