Weakened after just a month in power, British Prime Minister Liz Truss is trying to reassure her people by promising to get Britain out of ” storm “, through growth. But for the time being, the storm is not calming down: the British are facing a massive increase in the cost of living and nearly seven million of them are now affected by fuel poverty.
The financial weather is not more encouraging: the Bank of England intervened again on Tuesday 11 October in the face of “malfunctions” markets, worried about the British government’s budget announcements. Liz Truss has indeed announced her desire to drastically lower taxes, to a level not equaled for fifty years. In this episode of the “L’Heure du Monde” podcast, Eric Albert, correspondent for World in London, helps us to understand the crisis, whose causes are multiple, that the United Kingdom is going through.
