Beyond the political puzzle and the possible economic chaos attached to it, Brexit can also be an intimate disaster. For many who have built their lives between the United Kingdom and the continent, without suspecting that one day London's relations with the European Union would be disrupted, this process is primarily a personal trauma.

The world asked British settlers in EU countries, as well as Europeans living in the United Kingdom, to tell how the referendum on British withdrawal and its effects had affected them in their daily lives. Between identity crisis, new experiences of discrimination, collapsing life projects, lost friends and torn families, they describe the ravages of a divorce.
